Summary

Bill Description

AN ACT relating to elections; specifying acceptable identification for voter identification; repealing school identification cards, Medicaid and Medicare insurance cards as forms of acceptable identification; and providing for an effective date.

Notes

SF029 strengthens Wyoming’s voter identification law by adding a clear, uniform standard to the existing list of acceptable IDs. While current statute allows a wide range of identification documents for in-person voting, it does not explicitly require that those IDs be unexpired, original (not copies), and photo-bearing. SF0029 corrects that gap by clarifying that all acceptable identification must meet these basic, commonsense criteria.

This change does not reduce the number of acceptable IDs or who may vote. Instead, it ensures that every form of identification used at the polls actually serves its intended purpose: reliably confirming a voter’s identity. By setting a consistent standard that applies equally to all listed IDs, SF0029 reduces confusion for voters, provides clearer guidance for poll workers, and strengthens public confidence in the integrity of Wyoming’s elections. The bill improves election administration while preserving accessibility and fairness.
